The episode

In today's episode, I am going to teach you a very useful and interesting expression. And that expression is “to leave no stone unturned.” To leave no stone unturned. That’s leave (l-e-a-v-e) no stone (s-t-o-n-e) unturned (u-n-t-u-r-n-e-d). To leave no stone unturned.

What does it mean to leave no stone unturned? It means to try everything, to do everything you can to solve a problem.

Let me give you an example of a sentence that uses “leave no stone unturned.” After he lost his job, he said that he would leave no stone unturned when he tried to find a new one.

What does that mean? That means that he said he would do everything he could to find a new job. He would look everywhere. He would try everything he could think of to find a new job.

Why does “leave no stone unturned” mean to do everything you can to solve a problem? Think of it like this: imagine that you are trying to find something that is hidden. Where will you look to find this hidden thing? You will look everywhere. You will look under every stone. In other words, you will turn every stone over to see what is under it. And you will search in so many places that when you are done searching, all of the stones will have been turned over. There will not be any stones left that you have not looked underneath. You will have turned all the stones over, so there will be no stones that are left still un-turned over.

“To leave no stone unturned.” This is a useful and interesting expression that I think you should know.
