The episode

I am going to teach you an interesting word today. And that word is no-brainer. No-brainer. And that is spelled n-o-hyphen-b-r-a-i-n-e-r. No-brainer. What is a no-brainer?

A no-brainer can be a decision that is very easy to make or a problem that is very easy to solve. Think of it this way: we call a very easy or obvious decision a no-brainer because making the decision is so easy that you do not even need a brain. Or you do not need to use your brain. Or it can be a problem that is so easy to solve—the answer seems so obvious—that you do not need to use your brain. That’s what we mean by a no-brainer.

Let me give you an example of a situation where somebody might use no-brainer.

Let’s say that your friend is thinking about buying a new phone, but your friend is a little bit worried about the price. The phone that your friend wants is very expensive. But then, one day, you notice that there is a big sale on those phones. These phones are now much less expensive. They are being sold at a very big discount. And your friend asks you, “Well, do you think I should buy the phone now?” And you say, “That’s a no-brainer. Of course you should buy the phone now. It is so cheap!”

In this case, the decision is so easy to make. The phone is now much cheaper than before. So, deciding to buy it now is a no-brainer. You don’t even need to use your brain. That’s how easy this decision is.

That is no-brainer, a very interesting and useful word that I think you should know.
