The episode

In this episode, I am going to teach you a very useful construction. The construction I’m thinking of is the “as soon as” construction. As soon as. That’s a-s, s-o-o-n, a-s. As soon as.

What does “as soon as” mean, and how do we use it?

“As soon as” means “immediately after” or “immediately after something else happens.” “Right after something else happens.”

Let me give you an example of a sentence that uses this “as soon as” construction, and I think you will understand what I’m talking about.

“As soon as he comes home from work, he makes dinner.” As soon as he comes home from work, he makes dinner. This means immediately after he comes home from work, he makes dinner. Or right after he comes home from work, he makes dinner.

“As soon as” means “immediately after.” So immediately after he comes home from work, he makes dinner. It is a way of connecting these two actions. In this case, coming home from work and making dinner. And this construction tells us that one action happens immediately after another action.

Here is another example that shows how we use this “as soon as” construction:

I might send a text to my friend that says, “As soon as you read this, text me back.” As soon as you read this, text me back. In other words, “I want you to text me back immediately after you get my message.” I want you to text me immediately after you get this message.

This construction is a very common and useful construction, and it is another part of English that you should know.
